“Haven to Home: Jewish Life in America”
May 6-August 30, 2009
Detroit Historical Museum
Chronicling the history of American life has themes common to every ethic group: struggle and success, opportunity and equality, hatred and tolerance. The touring exhibition “From Haven to Home: 350 Years of Jewish Life in America,” on display May 6 – August 30 at the Detroit Historical Museum, deftly conveys this story with illuminating and compelling images and stories. Presented by the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan, in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, From Haven to Home focuses on America as “Haven” — the Jewish immigrant’s refuge from persecution in countries abroad — to America as “Home,” the creation of permanent Jewish communities in the United States. The Jewish Historical Society of Michigan (248-432-5517) is offering docent-led tours of the exhibit for groups of 6 or more. Visit www.michjewishhistory.org for more information.
